IGCA Versatility Program Titles & Rules

IGCA VERSATILITY PROGRAM TITLES & RULES

UPDATED REVISION: 12/19/08

VERSATILITY CERTIFICATE (VC) – Requires a total of 6 points earned from a minimum of two categories with a minimum of 2 points from each category.

VERSATILITY CERTIFICATE EXCELLENT (VCX) – Requires a total of 9 points earned from a minimum of three categories with a minimum of 2 points from each category.

VERSATILITY CERTIFICATE MASTER (VCM) – Requires a total of 12 points earned from a minimum of four categories with a minimum of 2 points from each category.

Points are additive, i.e. an AKC Champion earns three (3) points and an AKC Group Placement earns two (2) points; therefore, a Champion with a Group Placement earns five (5) points. Points CANNOT be awarded more than once for the same item, therefore, one Group Placement earns two (2) points, additional Group Placements DO NOT earn additional points. A CD earns three

(3) points; a CDX earns two (2) points for a total of five (5) points. Please remember, the emphasis here is versatility, the ability to do a variety of things, not the same thing over and over.

Rules relating to specific categories:

PUBLIC SERVICE – Therapy dogs can be approved by any sanctioning body, but documentation must include a signed statement that the dog has performed a minimum of ten

(10) hours of actual therapy work. The statement must include the name of the organization and the name, address, and telephone number of the signer.

TEMPERAMENT TEST – Points can be achieved under any of the organizations giving temperament tests. A signed statement with the name of the organization, including the tester’s name, address and phone number with a statement of whether the Italian Greyhound passed or not, will be required.

WEIGHT PULL – Versatility Award points for weight pull will be based upon the UKC Weight Pull rules. There are two UKC titles to be earned: (1) United Weight Puller (UWP) and

(2) United Weight Pull Champion (UWPCH). UKC requires that the dog pull eight times its body weight at three different trials for the UWP title. The dogs have to pull more/less times their body weight based on the conditions (snow, rails, etc.). Specific information can be found in the UKC Rules. Since other organizations allow IGs to participate, we will allow a signed score sheet from the pull stating that the dog pulled eight times its body weight, no matter the organization sponsoring the trial. For example, the dog pulling eight times its body weight at three (3) different trials will be awarded three (3) IGCA points for a WP Award and IGs earning the 100 points required by UKC for the UWPCH Title will receive two (2) IGCA points under our Weight Pull CH category.

AGILITY – Remember, this program should reflect versatility, the ability to do many different things, not the same things, over and over. For instance, a dog having an AKC Novice Agility Title for three (3) points, CANNOT add a NADAC Novice Agility Title for three (3) points – total six (6) points, as these are both novice level agility titles. However, a dog working in Agility under more than one organization, for instance, could count an AKC Novice Agility Title for three (3) points, and then if it won its UKC Agility II Title for two (2) points, the points would be additive for a total points of five (5).

Awards will be issued in the following manner:

  1. The owner must do all the record keeping for the dog until the requirements have been met. Once the dog has earned the necessary points, the owner must send copies of the proof (certificates, score sheets etc.) to the Versatility Chair. Documentation can be in the form of hard copies (which will not be returned) or scanned images/files. All documentation should be sent to:
